Last week Gap partnered up with musical movement Sofar Sounds to curate two pretty special and ultra top secret gigs. Their first gig was Thursday June 12th in East London at the Red Gallery where I had the pleasure of listening some up and coming bands.
In 2009 Rocky and Dave went to a gig and watched a band play to a group of unappreciative people. Disgruntled by such disrespect, it was from that moment onwards that the pair decided support musicians through rather unconventional means. They took one living room and band together with eight friends thus making the way for the very first Sofar, and now internationally worldwide affair which curates secret, intimate gigs in living rooms around the world. They spotlight amazing emerging artists, introducing them to new and passionate fans through a unique and magical concert experience. Sofar are doing larger events in partnership with Gap, therefore are able to be bigger because of this and that despite the increase in size it has maintained the same levels of intimacy and success - Gap have acted as an enabler so Sofar Sounds can put on bigger events.
Think an intimate gig in someone’s front room where music fans join with music genius. All over the world, London included, cities play host to monthly Sofar gigs held in secret locations.
