Art| Mexican Photographer Graciela Iturbide

Yesterday, I went with my mom to the Tate Britain and Tate Modern. She is going back to Mexico next week so we've been visiting the tourist spots in London. When we went to the Tate Modern, it was an exhibition of Graciela Iturbide a Mexican photographer. I remembered a few of her photos  because the American band Rage Against the Machine used one of her photos in one of their albums. Her photography mainly in Black & White captures the everyday daily life of Mexico’s indigenous cultures and has photographed life in Mexico City, Juchitán, Oaxaca and on the Mexican/American frontier.

Her photography is of the highest visual strength and beauty. Graciela Iturbide has developed a photographic style based on her strong interest in culture, ritual and everyday life in her native Mexico and other countries.

  1. I love these photos. Thank you for introducing her work. It reminds me of the work of Diane Arbus, especially her last set of photos of kids in a mental institution -- haunting.

  2. These are great photos and must have been stunnng to see them in the gallery. I was supposed to go to the gallery yesterday but we had the Hubert snowstorm (again!) so my trip is rescheduled until next week.

I bet you had a nice visit with your mom and will miss her when she leaves.
