Art/ La Casa Azul ( Frida Kahlo Museum)

This is The Blue House where Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived, now called Museo Frida Kahlo is where personal items reveal the intimate world of the Mexican artist most recognised worldwide.
What I like about old Mexican houses, is the garden in the middle of the house, in a lot of villages in Mexico the houses are  this shape, the light and interior mixing with the exterior, is wonderful.
Just like Frida Kahlo's house.

Inside of the house.
The house itself speaks of the everyday life of Frida. For example, the kitchen, which is typical of Mexican old buildings, with their clay pots hanging on the wall are testament to the variety of dishes that were prepared in the Blue House, both Diego and Frida loved to entertain his guests with dishes of Mexican, Hispanic, colonial and popular.
Frida Kahlo Studio
Her Diary.
On her bed is a painted plaster corset she was forced to wear to support her damaged spine, and under the canopy is a mirror facing down which she used to paint her many self-portraits.
The head of the bed contains a butterflies collection a gift from Japanese artist Isamu Naguchi.

I really enjoyed the museum, isn't fancy or pretentious,  the fact it was her home makes the museum really personal and enjoyable.
I hope you enjoy this post and if you want to see more photos you can check the album in my facebook page

  5. Oh my, the former home of two of my favourite artists! Thank you so much for showing us this. Coming up in Toronto is a retrospective of their work and though I've already seen much of it, am so looking forward to seeing it again. Even moreso now that I've had this little peek into their lives.

  15. Frida story always makes me so sad, she was a sad being though. Its what made her great. I used to love her art so much when I was in primary school, I wish the hipsters didn't make her a one dimensional floral crown wearing unibrowed lady :P

Cant wait to visit that place someday

  17. Really enjoyed this post! I'm a huge fan of Frida Kahlo's work, so it's really interesting to see these images of her house & where she produced her work. I love how vibrant the house is & how its been left, it's almost as if she's still living there, with the abandoned easel & open diary...

  18. I loved this post! I'm a huge fan of Frida Kahlo and her personal life had a tremendous presence in her work--the turmoil and pain that she felt, emotional and physical. What an incredible opportunity to take a glimpse inside this brilliant artist's home. I was in Puerto Vallarta recently, but unfortunately didn't go outside of PV. The next time I'm going to Mexico, I definitely want to check the Blue House out! Thank so much for sharing these wonderful photos and your experience. :)

  25. Frida is one of my favourite artists. May sound like a cliché but it is true. I have always wanted to visit the Blue House, ever since my Mum gave me the 'Frida's Fiestas' recipe book. After that I bought her facsmile diary, several books about her and Diego Rivera and managed to attend an exhibition that was held a few years ago in Lisbon. The fascination continues and my latest Frida related purchase was the ASOS tshirt: http://images-ff.asos-media.com/shmotterstorage/4276/large_9a8bfc1d-2ade-4488-87e8-04d8e8041fec.jpeg
Your photos are the closest to an actual visit, thank you so much for sharing these :)
