How to feel Inspired?

Image via Seabois
-How to feel inspired?
It's probably the question that everybody wants to know and we all have been in the position of feeling bored and uninspired; I guess is a natural human feel but one thing I know inspiration won't come out of nothing.
-Recently I came across an article about David Lynch in The Times where he mentions:  Ideas are like fishing. I can't agree more with this, If you are lacking of ideas or inspiration get out there and do something. Of course the perfect scenario would be to take a plane to an exotic place whenever we want but that is completely unrealistic - by doing something I mean take a different route to go to work, walk more, eat your lunch outside your office, visit new places, cafes, parks, try different food, clothing style - something you haven't worn before because you think isn't "you".
-Sketch, write that was the first rule I learnt at university when I was studying Design, to create something there is always a process..So take a Notepad with you everywhere! Ideas come and go so you need to hunt and write them down because believe me you will forget about them.
-Just write a word, an image or something in your note pad then when you are at home, think of how you can make it real! Make it happen!
-Even if you live in a small town you can still find inspiration everywhere! Yes, I know big cities like New York, Paris or London are full of inspiration but you'll find inspiration by living your life in whatever town you are right now! We have an amazing tool called imagination and we are free to play with it.

-You'll find inspiration in: Trees, books,Rain, cafes, walking, markets, people in the bus, music, flavours, textures, ink, grannies, punks, magazines, newspapers, air, sand, architecture, streets, galleries, photographs, old, new, ugly, Sunshine, fire, dark, sea...the simple things in life.

  5. Beautifully said. We all need to be inspired and use creativity to grow and prosper, without creativity life would be so dull. Music is something that inspires me most. I hope the builder was handsome xxx

  9. So true - you have to shake up the pot once in a while and things will start to happen. Nothing comes from nothing!

  13. i can really appreciate this post. it's tough to be inspired in a big city like new york...constantly overwhelmed with senses, sensations, it's like overload...almost too much! i found myself always running to see art, music, shows, have drinks. and talking about a lot of stuff, constantly inspired, but never actually creating any of these things myself! i do wish there were more creative people around, it's tough to find people out here in the country to jam with, hang out with and discuss ideas...

  14. that builder outfit thing made me laugh, but it is actually a beautiful example of how inspiration can be found anywhere. that Lynch quote you mention, I highly recommend his book Catching the Big Fish. transcendental meditation is a great way to boost your creativity and get ideas.

  15. What a beautiful post - I'm in the process of making a zine for fun, (cos I'm sick of having nothing creative to do), so I will keep this in mind if ever I feel a little defeated...which I'm sure I will! I have lots of gorgeous photography and fashion books full of inspiration but as I recently moved they're currently in storage at my Dad's house 5 hours away:'( I'll have to get them back soon! xx

  16. Victoria, this was such a lovely post & really inspirational too! I couldn't agree more. I tend to go through phases, one moment everything inspires me, the next moment I couldn't be more uninspired & defeated! Getting out & doing different things always helps though, I think it's important not to get stuck in a rut doing the same things day in day out. I'd hate to be one of those people that go to work, get home, eat go to bed & then the same thing over & over for the next 20 years.
I love that you found inspiration in the builders outfit! I always seem to find it in weird things like that also! Can't wait to see the DIY! :)

  17. Lovely post and loving the local shop/bubble gum/builder story- you have the stylist-eye baby...
As for me the weather in Berlin is what is keeping me inspired. Where I live, I don't have curtains and because I wake up early naturally, these days when I wake up, as the weather is sunny and great (a miracle for Berlin!!)-I wake up to see sun streaming through my large windows and this puts me in a good mood and I feel inspired. I feel inspired to do something that will push my creativity and profession further. By 4/5pm this feeling wanes a bit, so I always feel I am most inspired around 8am!!
