DIY/ Christopher Kane SS12 Floral Clothing

Photo1 &2 via Style Bubble.
You will need:
  1. Floral fabric remnants.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Fabric Glue.
  4. Transparent thread.
  5. Fray Check (it keeps fabric edges from fraying)
  6. White shirt (preferably see through material)

What a great start to spring with this happy floral DIY. This is my Second DIY  inspired by one of my favourites British Designer Christopher Kane. Last year with his Cosmic Clothing inspiration. You can see the DIY  I did Here! This spring floral with a twist! But what I love is what in my eyes looks like a floral college in a top. Yay! I thought that looks quite genius! I have to try it! Even with my rusty designer skills :/

So this is what I did:

I Cut different types of flowers from fabric remnants. Then I applied something called Fray Check the thin liquid can be squeezed on in a fine line with the applicator tip, or brushed on with a stiff brush to most fabric edges. Once dry, it keeps fabric edges from fraying while you work with them. It will go through gentle washing, but may need to be replaced after a few washes. After that with Fabric Glue you stick all the flowers in your shirt like an album. You can be lazy and leave the DIY until here, I have tasted Fabric glue in the past and it does hold the fabric even after washing machine  wash (gentle wash) but if you want this to stay forever I recommend to apply glue and also sew the flowers with transparent thread.
What do you think? The shirt I picked is kind of see trough (trying to imitate the organza of Kane) but you can't see it in the photos. I will do some photos outdoors this weekend so you can see how I styled the top.

Also More Magazine feature my Sunflower look of the day on their magazine Here! If  you want to check it out! Happy Spring!

  8. this is a very cool idea! i wonder if this would also work using xerox transfer? there are also some papers that can be run thru the printer..so any printed image can be applied to fabric. i've never tried tho, but this post gets me thinking :D i think it would definitely work with b&w images, but i've never tried color...great inspiration!

  20. Naw this is quite a cute turnout for your DIY hun. Very doable and the outcome looks amazing. Great inspiration with Christopher Kane too. His floral applique collection was a movement away from all the floral patternings we've been seeing.

  25. Very good! I love your DIYs.
I was also wondering how it would look if the flowers were sown on the inside- to look more like the second photo, as they seem more diaphanous. Hmm...

    1. I tried to put the flowers on the inside but the top isn't that see through so you couldn't see the flowers clearly :)

  41. Great, economic-savvy idea! I love Christopher Kane and the whole floral print thang, but I am crap at DIY, somehow when it comes to cutting and sticking my fingers get very clumsy and if I tried to make this top I would have got glue everywhere but the top and chopped the flower heads of by mistake! Looking forward to seeing what look you come up with using this top!x
